In November 2007, Camp Columba celebrated 50 years of Christian camping.  It all began in 1951 when Mr. Gordon Pullar made a very generous offer of a section of his Pukearu farm as a campsite to the Mataura Bible Class District Committee.

The vision of the founders was amazing.  Once a rocky, steep slope; today the camp is host to many groups from churches, schools, clubs and community.  Those who use it express deep appreciation and enjoyment of the facilities and camp-run programmes.

The book follows the Camp Columba story from its early beginnings, through the fundraising events, the dedication of builder and caretaker, Ritchie Kelly; and the development of a new vision including Adventure Camping.

Lives were changed along the way, particularly as a result of attending Easter and Labour weekend camps.  A chapter is dedicated to this key reason for the campsite's existence.

Many people have been involved and through their hard work and generosity, along with God's blessing, have turned a vision into reality - this is their story.
