Nearing Completion

After 3 quick weeks the dining hall project is getting close to being completed. Painting is well underway at this point. The ceiling and walls are done, the doors and windows are being worked on. It is quite likely that the team will wrap up their work here at camp on Tuesday. It's been a real blessing to have the MMM team here. Today we said farewell to the Pene family. Ernie, Michelle, Daniel, Alix, Grace and Michael left this morning. They are heading to the top of the island to start another project. The Mitchells, the Gilmores and Rosie will remain here to finish things up.

2 1/2 Weeks

The painting has begun. The hall is completely lined and all of the woodwork is finished. The electrical upgrades were completed over the weekend, thanks Peter. It is truly amazing how quickly the team has been able to get through this project. Ernie has primed the whole hall is is working on spraying the ceiling right now. By Thursday night it is likely that the ceiling and upper walls will be finished, leaving just the bottom bit to be rolled.

Day 7

The work continues. The guys are flying along. The ceiling is completely lined and trimmed. The side walls are finished. The wall at the stage end will likely be done by day's end and the wall at the kitchen end will be finished tomorrow. The doors and windows are being trimmed as the work progresses. Painting should start on Friday. We are continuing to be be blessed by volunteers showing up. Some have worked right from the start, others for almost a week now and others have put in a day when they can. All of the help makes the job go smoothly. It is truly appreciated.

Day 6

One of the really neat things about a project like this is that you can see progress everyday and you can start to imagine what it will look like when finished. I can tell you that the dining hall will look fantastic. The team has been working hard. Allan Mitchell even worked on Saturday, which is normally an off day for MMM guys. There was a cell group, organized by Jessica Gardyne, that wanted to come and take part in the project so Allan agreed to work with them for the day. It was fantastic to have some young adults on site helping with the project. The ceiling is now completely lined, Ernie and Stan are just working on trimming around the trusses. Allan and Tom have been working away at lining the walls. The south wall is lined from the wood stove to the kitchen and the north wall is half completed as well. The undercoat may be on the ceiling by the end of this week. One interesting decision that we have yet to make is the colour that we will paint the walls. If anyone has any suggestions, send them our way.

Dining Hall - Day 5

It's the end of the first week and we are all amazed at the amount of work that has been completed in that time. The ceiling is just about lined, the south wall is over half finished and the north wall is ready to be lined. The team is really pleased with the progress they are making and we are just blessed to have them here. The committment of these families and individuals is remarkable.

The team is making amazing progress. You can see in the pictures that the ceiling is well on the way to being lined and that the walls are almost all battene and insulated. The goal is to have the ceiling completed tomorrow.

The MMM team arrived this past weekend, 3 caravans pulled in and set up shop. First thing Monday morning they started working away at insulating and lining Ritchie Kelly Hall(the dining hall). They are making great progress as you will see from the pictures.
